Chapter 9. Select files for special pages

A. Alternate methods to select files

In Chapters 6 through 8, you learned how to create special pages to display images in galleries and slideshows or to display an embedded PDF file. You learned one way to select the files to display on those pages – you selected them from your computer hard drive.

Here you will learn two additional methods for selecting files.

1. First method: Select from files already uploaded to your website.

a) On the page editing screen, scroll down to the area titled Images or PDF file.

134. Browse server to select images

b) Click on the button Browse server.

c) A pop-up window displays the images and text documents that have already been uploaded to your website’s file storage area.

(Note that audio and video files do not appear in this directory.)

135. Website file directory

d) Click on the file(s) that you wish to display on the web page.

(1) Hold down the Control key (Command key on Mac) to click on multiple files.

e) Once you have selected your files, right-click over any one of the selected files.

f) A small pop-up box appears with a list of actions.

136. Pop-up list of file actions

g) Click on Select files.

h) The files will be processed and displayed in the Images or PDF file area, just as they were using the method learned in Chapters 6 through 8.

2. Second method: Select files from your computer using Drag and Drop.

a) On the page editing screen, scroll down to the area titled Images or PDF file.

b) In a separate window, open the file explorer on your computer hard drive and navigate to the folder that contains the files you want to upload.

c) Orient this window to overlay the page editing screen.

137. Select files using Drag and Drop

d) Use the Drag and Drop method to move files.

(1) Click on a file icon in the file explorer and hold the click.

(2) Drag the icon over to the area indicated on the editing screen by the words Drag files here.

(3) Release the click.

(4) To select multiple files, hold down the Control key (Command key on Mac) and click on each file, then drag them together.

e) Once you have moved all the files you desire into the area Drag files here, click on the link Start upload.

f) The files will be processed and displayed in the Images or PDF file area, just as they were using the method learned in Chapters 6 through 8.

3. If you are working with images (for a Gallery or Slideshow page), continue with the next step of writing a subtitle for each image in your Publication Language.

4. Click on one of the Save buttons at the bottom of the screen.
